The show

The rooms of the Viscontea Tower will host the photographic exhibition "Elio Luxardo and the cinema" from 25 June to 31 July.

The exhibition, promoted by the Municipality of Lecco , SiMUL - Lecco Urban Museum System and 3M Foundation , celebrates the artist known for being the photographer of the divas and stars of Cinecittà between the fifties and sixties.

Elio Luxardo established himself as an author of documentaries, learning a lot from his father as a photographer. When, in 1932, he moved to Rome, he enrolled in the Experimental Center of Cinematography with the dream of becoming a director. Intolerant of discipline, however, he leaves school to enter the studio of the photographer Sem Bosch and almost immediately takes over his activity, quickly establishing himself as a portraitist . In his atelier in via del Tritone 197 Luxardo experiments with a particular use of lights that will prove to be highly innovative for the world of photography , but which in reality the author had learned on film sets, applying a brightness system that enhanced faces and made them particularly plastic. This is how Luxardo brings out the characteristics of each of his subjects - from the gaze, to the posture, to the smile - and prefers shots in which the face or body occupies the space diagonally , so as to convey a sense of plasticity . And it is thanks to this capacity for synthesis in the search for beauty that Luxardo's portraits of cinema retain their very current classicism.
