The Fondazione Officine dell’Acqua requalifies the ancient warehouses of Laveno Mombello, transforming them into a cultural and educational hub dedicated to the history of the waterways of Verbano, with a museum, shipbuilding workshops, library, and activities on Lake Maggiore.
The Fondazione Officine dell’Acqua was born in Laveno Mombello from an urban regeneration project to enhance the memory of the waterways of Northern Italy. It requalifies the ancient warehouses of the port and the railway station, now home to a cultural center with a museum of vintage boats, shipbuilding workshops, thematic library, and conference room. It is a place for training and transmission of traditional lake crafts, with courses and workshops. The foundation also manages a floating museum at the Porto Antico, from which excursions depart aboard restored historic boats, to discover the history, nature, and traditions of Lake Maggiore.
