The Calderdale Museum is located in the heart of the city of Halifax right next to the Piece Hall and the train station. The museum houses an interesting collection that chronicles the wide variety of industries that have developed in Calderdale over the past 250 years. The exhibitions organized here cannot fail to evoke the spirit of the Industrial Revolution. The Calderdale Museum was inaugurated in August 1985 and immediately met with immediate success, so much so that it subsequently won a national award as the best museum of industrial and social history. The museum immediately stood out for its lively educational program and included occasional theatrical productions along with the workshop. Initially, in addition to maintaining exhibitions, it was still used for the production of objects for other municipal departments, thus obtaining additional income. Today the collection, put together over a number of years, represents a large section of objects relating to the industry that operated in and around Calderdale. Some of the machines preserved here are the only existing examples in England. There is also the oil engine, called "Sadie" which provides the driving force for part of a large collection of locally produced machine tools which includes lathes, drills and planers.
