Inaugurated on the evening of Sunday, December 8th, at the Episcopio Castle in Grottaglie, the 45th edition of the Nativity Scene Exhibition, entitled The Nativity Scene in the Tradition, has been opened.
During the event, which marks the beginning of an exhibition open to the public until January 12, 2025, the winners of the prestigious awards related to the exhibition were announced.
The jury, chaired by the mayor of Grottaglie, Ciro D’Alò, and composed of Professor Nunzia Panessa (teacher of Drawing and Art History at the Moscati High School in Grottaglie), Dr. Silvano Trevisani (journalist and writer), and Professor Angelo Pio De Siati (master ceramist and nativity scene artist), awarded the most deserving works among those exhibited.
The "The Nativity Scene in the Tradition 2024" Award, worth 3,500 euros, was presented to Domenico Pinto for the work The Colors of Peace, the Shadows of War: the jury praised the compositional articulation and chromatic elegance with which the artist was able to maintain the traditional iconography of the nativity scene, conveying a powerful message of peace.

A special mention was also given to Marco Petean for the work Holy Family Fleeing for Peace, appreciated for the topicality of the theme and the compositional quality.

Finally, the "2024 Scholarship" Award, dedicated to Italian Artistic High Schools with a ceramic specialization and worth 1,000 euros, was awarded to Maya Scalabrini, a student at the State Artistic High School in Verona, for the work Holy Carousel. Created with the support of her classmates Erin Morales Trias, Agata Mosetich, Nicole Coelati Rama, and Giovanni Celadon, the work was able to represent Christmas in a playful and original way, evoking the world of childhood with excellent technical realization.

The Nativity Scene Exhibition is promoted and organized by the Municipality of Grottaglie - Culture Office and the municipal administration - Department of Culture, Public Education, Tourism, Promotion, and Enhancement of Grottaglie Ceramics (municipal councilor Dr. Raffaella Capriglia).

The exhibition will be open until January 12, 2025, with free admission, while for the Ceramic Museum, also located within the castle, there is an entrance fee.
