The Le Clarisse cultural center is dedicating an exhibition to the sculptures of the Grosseto artist Tolomeo Faccendi. Friday 22 April at 6 pm in the museum of the Grosseto Cultura Foundation the exhibition “Faccendi and room 41” will be inaugurated by Mauro Papa, the director of the museum.

«This - says Mauro Papa - is not the usual exhibition. It not only exhibits works of art, but asks the public to collaborate with the organizers to solve a mystery: that of the busts made in the Fascist era by the well-known Grosseto sculptor Tolomeo Faccendi (1905-1970). The busts on display, owned by the Municipality of Grosseto, do not have a name and the characters represented are currently unknown, although hypotheses have been made in the past. One of the two busts that we show, the bronze one, was identified with Costanzo Ciano but it does not seem that the physiognomy corresponds. The mystery therefore remains: if it is not Costanzo Ciano, who is this notable fascist with glasses? On display is another patinated plaster bust, dated 1932, and even in this case it is not possible to identify the person portrayed in a suit and tie. Finally, the title of the exhibition also evokes a Room 41: it refers to the "Room of modern art" (number 41) set up by Aldo Mazzolai, director of the Archaeological Museum of Grosseto at the inauguration of the current location in 1975. That room, dismantled in 1991, housed works of modern art owned by the municipality such as the paintings by Pietro Aldi and Paride Pascucci and the sculptures by Tolomeo Faccendi, Paladino Orlandini and Vico Consorti ».
