From 29 April to 13 November 2022
Artistic event of the highest prestige at the Provincial Museums of Gorizia , which from 30 April to 1 October host the exhibition Kusterle, Compendium , the first anthology dedicated to the work of the photographer from Gorizia Roberto Kusterle, born in 1948, in the headquarters of the eighteenth-century Palazzo Attems Petzenstein.
The exhibition is organized by ERPAC FVG - Regional Body for Cultural Heritage of Friuli Venezia Giulia, and makes use of the collaboration of CRAF - Center for research and archiving of photography, of the 1st level Master in "Photographic archives: digitization, cataloging , enhancement ”of the Department of Humanities of the University of Trieste and the Sergio Amidei Prize.
On display it will be possible to retrace almost half a century of career, starting from the early 1980s to the present day, thanks to 230 works including paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, videos, analogue and digital photographs, many of which come from archive of the artist and exhibited for the first time.
The exhibition, set up on the noble floor of Palazzo Attems Petzenstein, was curated by the art critic prof. Angelo Bertani and by dr. Alessandro Quinzi , curator of the art collection of the Provincial Museums of Gorizia, who were joined by Sara Occhipinti of Studio Faganel in the care of the full-bodied catalog (348 pages) published to accompany the exhibition.
The path, ordered chronologically, begins with the silver salt photographs of the early Eighties, in which it is already possible to recognize, in a nutshell, the themes dear to Kusterlian poetics (the body, its symbiosis with nature, its transience), which would have been fully developed starting from the analog cycles of the nineties. But before arriving at that production, which would have made Kusterle's name famous in the field of art photography at an international level, the research follows other paths, those of an informal "painting" with a strongly material imprint, which necessarily borders on third dimension, in sculpture and installation, even temporary and site specific.
