The MACG - Museum of Contemporary Art of Gibellina is located in the center of the new city. The Museum is the first in all of Sicily dedicated to contemporary art. The museum was born in the 1950s and 1960s, thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality and gallery owners and art experts such as: Calvesi, Argan, Bonito Oliva, Paparoni, Soldano, Di Stefano, Appella and Romero. The collection consists of about 2000 works including drawings, photographs, paintings, installations and sculptures by Sicilian, national and international artists. Among the most famous artists present are mentioned: Boetti, Capogrossi, Guttuso, Isgrò, Pollok, Pomodoro, Signorini, Severini, Schifano, Xerra and Treccani. The Museum now houses an educational section aimed at children and is responsible for bringing the public of young people closer to contemporary art.
