The show

The BPER Banca Gallery presents itself for the first time in Genoa with the exhibition “Sinfonie d'Arte. Masterpieces in dialogue between Modena and Genoa”, curated by Anna Orlando and Lucia Peruzzi at Palazzo Doria Carcassi. Created together with the Carige Foundation, the exhibition will be open to the public free of charge from 21 April to 23 July 2023.

An exhibition of over 30 works of the greatest masterpieces from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century from the BPER Banca Collection belonging to the Genoese nucleus and the Modena nucleus - Gioacchino Assereto, Giovanni Francesco Barbieri known as il Guercino, Guido Reni, Alessandro Tiarini and Antonio Maria Vassallo, among others .

The exhibition itinerary develops in the six rooms on the main floor of Palazzo Doria Carcassi, now the headquarters of the Carige Foundation, an elegant building of sixteenth-century origin, enlarged and renovated in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

The exhibition, after the first room dedicated to the Emilian masterpieces from the Genoese collection ("Emiliani in comparison"), invites the public to explore some themes that unfold in five sections, within which the works are linked together by a fil iconographic rouge and also analyzed from a critical point of view: "Magic of light", "The colors of music", "Virgins and heroines", "The charm of everyday life" and "Gestures of seduction".

In the first room the Emilian masters from the Genoese nucleus will be exhibited and, in particular, from the historic Doria di Montaldeo collection, i.e. "The Preaching of the Baptist" by Sisto Badalocchi, "La Veronica" by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, known as il Guercino, the " Death of Dario" by Francesco Monti and a masterpiece by a great master of the seventeenth century, born in Bologna and then adopted by the Milanese school, namely the "Deposed Christ and the Magdalene" by Giulio Cesare Procaccini.

The next five rooms, some of which are decorated with extraordinary eighteenth-century stuccoes in the "Genoese baroque" style, will see Emilian masters away from Modena parade: among the most famous names, Ludovico Carracci, Guido Reni, Guercino and Giuseppe Maria Crespi will arrive, alongside which will find place Bartolomeo Passerotti, Sisto Badalocchi, Lucio Massari, Alessandro Tiarini, Michele Desubleo, Paolo Emilio Besenzi, Lorenzo Pasinelli and Cristoforo Munari. The works of these artists will be compared with Genoese paintings, among these we remember Giovanni Battista Paggi, Gioacchino Assereto, Luca Cambiaso and Giovanni Maria Bottalla, in a dialogue that will highlight a different culture that becomes language, indeed real " pictorial dialect”, with its own specific identity.
