New event at Castello D'Albertis Museum of World Cultures: from 31 March to 18 June 2023 the exhibition "Play & Design from Cameroon".
An exhibition that stops only to be visited but offers the opportunity to reflect on the theme of play thanks to 12 prototypes of games, designed and produced by the students of LABA - Libre Académie des Beaux-arts Douala in Cameroon. The display of games is flanked by a significant selection of traditional African toys from the collection of the COE Association gathered in over fifty years of presence on the Continent and by photographic images of the CAMon! and laboratories.
The architects of Dontstop Architettura have proposed, starting from a particular reading of the great masters of Milanese design, the theme of play as an object, starting point, method, metaphor, language and subject of the design project.
The realization of the projects started from a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Cameroonian games to then focus on the reworking of the great games of international culture, from Lego to Meccano arriving at Guess who, reinterpreted with a Cameroonian design approach.
Experimenting with a design methodology based on imagination and a broader investigation of reality, rather than answering specific problems, the students of the LABA - Libre Académie des Beaux-arts Douala have designed objects with an empathic value.
The exhibition is accompanied by a very rich calendar of events: insights with schools, workshops for children and families in collaboration with the COE Association, the Borghero African Library and EchoArt, a Video Art Masterclass, a film screening of the FESCAAAL - African Cinema Festival, of Asia and Latin America in Milan, thematic talks and conferences.
