On the occasion of the World Autism Awareness Day, which falls this year on Sunday 2 April 2023, the photographic exhibition Lights, shadows and… lives opens at 10.30 at Castello D'Albertis Museum of World Cultures, with photographic works by Fabio Casulli.
The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the ETS Philos Impresa Accademia Pedagogica Sociale Foundation, which was created with the aim of researching and developing the psycho-physical well-being and the internal resources of the individual, through an active commitment in multiple areas of intervention but in particular by offering professionalism and advanced psychoeducational techniques in the field of autism. Simonetta Lumachi, founder of the Philos Pedagogical Academy, accompanies the artist in this presentation of her works as she is deeply convinced of the importance of making known to a large audience the exceptional talents which, sometimes jealously hidden, many people diagnosed with autism. The exhibition consists of 19 color images, taken in the center of the city of Genoa, in the Anita Garibaldi promenade in the Genoese district of Nervi and on the beach of the town on the eastern coast of Santa Margherita Ligure. They are two series of 9 images each, one series facing the other, because they are conceptually opposed, united by a photo that accompanies the transition from one series to another.
Quite special is the shooting technique, sought for a long time to express the ideal and emotional content that the author wanted to communicate. Found in a sort of intuition, it takes its inspiration from the very etymology of the word "photography": "drawing with light". The camera is moved during the exposure, with different movements depending on the situation, maintaining a very wide depth of field: the result is very pictorial, but reality is movement, and the movement of the camera during the shot is considered by the author as the only faithful representation of reality itself.
