From 2 February to 4 May 2023
Thursday 2 February 2023 at 5.30 pm , Palazzo Reale di Genova, in the Ballroom, hosts the fourth meeting of the series of conferences THE CURATOR AND THE ARCHITECT: Dialogues on (new) Museums , dedicated to the most recent and interesting cases of renewal of museums in Italy and beyond, in a two-way confrontation between the figure of the curator and that of the architect in charge of transforming the layouts and exhibition itineraries according to the new communication and accessibility needs.
A "journey" to the major museums, conceived and curated by Alessandra Guerrini, Regional Director of Liguria Museums, as part of the initiatives for the promotion of the National Museum System , the project coordinated by the Directorate General of Museums and currently being implemented which "aims at putting of almost 5,000 Italian museums and places of culture in order to improve the use, accessibility and sustainable management of cultural heritage”.
The director of the ADI Museum Compasso d'Oro in Milan , Andrea Cancellato , together with the architect Matteo Vercelloni , will illustrate the museum complex, inaugurated in May 2021, built in an industrial building on the edge of the city centre. The architectural aspects and the layout choices of the ADI permanent collection will be presented in relation to the spaces for events and temporary exhibitions. At the center of reflection, the Museum as a laboratory dedicated to the culture of design, constantly updated.
In the second part of the meeting, the project under development of the Opificio della Cultura of Lodi will also be presented, which plans to transform part of the great National Linificio of Lodi (1907), a project linked to the funds of the PNRR.
A project which, through a process of participation and discussion with the citizens and with the States General of Culture of Lodi, has defined an idea of Museum-Workshop which together with relaunching memories and documents of the City of Lodi (The Civic Museum closed from years will be relocated to redeveloped industrial spaces, such as the Historical Archive) will activate synergies with diversified activities offered to the city.
The architectural design feature common to both museums is the comparison with the existing urban building in a logic of reuse and transformation; attention to the shape of the city and its pre-existing buildings which today appear to be one of the reference streets for architectural design worldwide.
