The Boboli Gardens

The Boboli Gardens is located in Florence and was born as a garden of Palazzo Pitti and Forte di Belvedere .

The Boboli Gardens is considered to be one of the most important examples of an Italian garden in the world.

It can be defined as an open-air museum , since walking in the greenery you can admire the Roman sculptures and antiquities and contemporary installations. The gardens were built between the end of 1500 and 1900 by different families: the Medici, the Habsburg - Lorraine and finally the Savoy.

Over time, the garden was enriched with fountains, nymphaeums, ponds, caves and temples . Of great importance are the architectures built in the eighteenth century such as the Kaffeehaus , in Rococo style, the Limonaia which takes up the color of the Lorraine (green). Another important architectural element is the horseshoe-shaped amphitheater .

At the center of the amphitheater we find the Egyptian obelisk , unique in all of Tuscany, which dates back to 1500 BC. To embellish the garden we find the small “Giardino del Cavaliere”, one of the few enclosed spaces in Boboli. It is located in the area forming part of the fortifications built by Michelangelo in 1529. The entire garden is enriched with bronze, terracotta and marble sculptures made by the likes of Giambologna, Tribolo, Giovanni Battista Caccini and Pierino da Vinci.
