Built on what remained of the ancient Municipal Theater of Figueres, the Teatro-Museo Dalí is the last great creation of Salvador Dalí. Inaugurated in 1974, this extraordinary space was designed by the artist as a total work of art, a surreal labyrinth in which each room reflects his dreamlike vision.
The exterior facade, with giant eggs, bands of bread, and a geodesic glass dome, is already a manifesto of Dalí's irony and imagination. Inside, the museum tour guides visitors through over 1,500 works including paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, holograms, and photographs. Highlights include: the Mae West Room (with a sofa-lips and furnishings that make up the face of the famous actress), the Rainy Taxi, the magnetic Cadillac sculpture, and the crypt with the artist's tomb.
The complex also includes the Dalí - Joyas section, a refined collection of jewelry designed by the artist, exhibited in an environment dedicated to the eloquence of details and surrealist goldsmithing.
The museum also offers guided tours, themed tours, activities dedicated to the centenary of the opening, and temporary exhibitions that change periodically. It is advisable to book tickets in advance to avoid queues, especially on weekends or during the summer months.
