closed RENAISSANCE IN FERRARA

The show

Following a complex restoration and redevelopment project, the historic Palazzo dei Diamanti exhibition venue will reopen in February 2023 with an exhibition dedicated to two great Ferrara Renaissance masters, Ercole de' Roberti and Lorenzo Costa .

Equipped with an incredible compositional talent, extraordinary in quality and emotional expressiveness, Ercole de' Roberti (c. 1450-1496) divided his time between Ferrara and Bologna , to then spend the last decade in his hometown. The exceptional loans will make it possible to discover – or rediscover – an artist who sadly passed away at the height of a burning career.

It was Lorenzo Costa (1460-1536) who inherited Ercole's legacy and continued his style. During a long stay in Bologna his painting acquired greater softness, a more relaxed classicism. The world was changing, Leonardo and Perugino imposed a new "manner", which Costa immediately understood and of which he was among the greatest interpreters, even after his transfer to Mantua.

Alongside the two protagonists, there will be artists who were their teachers (Mantegna, Donatello, Cosmè Tura) or travel companions (Perugino, Francesco Francia). Rich in a hundred works of the highest quality, the Palazzo dei Diamanti exhibition promises a unique opportunity to admire the dazzling wealth of the Ferrara Renaissance, much of which has escaped to museums around the world.
