Philara collection

Sammlung Philara (Philara Collection) is a contemporary art museum in Düsseldorf. It is a collection of contemporary art that includes more than 1000 works, including paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs and graphic works. The origin of the collection dates back to the mid-1990s by Gil Bronner who, in addition to bringing the collection together, undertook a broad promotion of emerging artists from Düsseldorf and the surrounding area, thanks to his links with the academy of art of the city. In 2006, Bronner bought the former Leitz factory, making it an atelier for young artists and an exhibition space for temporary exhibitions where emerging talents could meet more established artists, such as Thomas Ruff, Katharina Fritsch, Andreas Gursky, Hans Peter Feldmann , as well as internationally known artists, such as Alicja Kwade, Kris Martin, Pae White, Rashid Johnson and Monika Sosnowska. Over time, thanks also to the purchases made during the exhibitions themselves, the collection has expanded more and more and the annual exhibitions organized by the museum have increased from three to five. The exhibition space has also been modernized and expanded, with rooms sometimes designed by the artists themselves to accommodate specific installations, as in the case of the works of Freeman & amp; Lowe, Tomàs Saraceno and Daniel Steegman Mangrané. Guided tours are also organized in the museum.
