From 20 December to 12 May 2024
The Ala Ponzone Civic Museum celebrates 150 years since the death of Giovanni Carnovali known as "Il Piccio" with an exhibition of drawings that retrace his life. More than 90 works capable of shedding light on the extraordinary graphic ability that distinguished him. On display there will be, in addition to the works already in the possession of the Pinacoteca, the newly acquired Coggi collection, still unpublished.
The sequence of works is proposed in chronological order to allow us to grasp the surprising aesthetic and philological relationships. The predominantly graphic review presented in the exhibition combines drawings from life (people, views, landscapes) with exemplars of "history" which are truly preparatory for paintings , or more or less varied derivations from his "masterpieces" installed in churches or in halls of Lombard high society. Eleven of his masterpieces on canvas form a corollary around Piccio's graphic anthology. To complete the itinerary, some paintings by the artist and a group of drawings by other painters from Piccio's entourage.
The inauguration is open to the public and scheduled for Tuesday 19 December at 5.00 pm. The exhibition will continue until Monday 1 April, Easter Monday.
