The show

From 7 to 28 May 2023, at the prestigious headquarters of the National Gallery of Cosenza, it will be possible to take part in the SUD CONTEMPORARY exhibition project, and visit the exhibition which hosts the works of 21 southern artists, protagonists of the contemporary art scene.

It will be possible to visit the Exhibition as part of the cultural offer of the National Gallery of Cosenza, on the days and during the opening hours, at the unit cost of the Museum entrance ticket.

The Exhibition is the result of the synergy between the Publiepa Company, the Regional Directorate of Calabria Museums and the Calabria Region, and it fully enters among the events in support of the Calabria Extraordinary Brand.

SOUTH CONTEMPORARY has the scientific direction and curatorship of Melissa Acquesta, Independent Curator, Critic and Art Historian, the conception and installation of Franco Paternostro and the coordination of Arch. Rossana Baccari, Director of the National Gallery of Cosenza.

Maurizio Cariati, Nicola Cozzi, Andrea Gallo, Franco Paternostro, Antonio Trimani, Antonio Tropiano exhibit for Calabria; for Lazio Evita Andujar, Arianna Matta, Maria Carmela Milano, Flavio Tiberio Petricca; for Campania Marco Abbamondi, Max Coppeta, Generoso Spagnuolo; for Puglia Dario Agrimi, Antonio delli Carri, Igino Iurilli; for Sicily Salvatore Alessi, Luigi Citarrella, Samantha Torrisi; for Sardinia Daniela Frongia and Laura Saddi.

The works on display, some of which are unpublished specifically created for the project, range from conceptual art to video art, tactile and sound installations, painting, from sculpture to multi-material and fiber art, to demonstrate the different lines of research, at the basis of the poetics of the different artists, who travel on the same physical-geographical territories examined.

The project therefore has the objective of presenting a selection of artists who were born, have lived, live or work in a consolidated way in the South and open up, through the exhibition of the works, to reflection on the proposed researches and wonder if they are born, are mediated or contaminate by the places of both physical and conceptual belonging that characterize the evolution of these artists.

The territorial focus therefore becomes the starting point for a broader reflection on the southern state of art, where the "SOUTH" is not a border but a starting point.

A project that wants to become an annual appointment from 2023 to 2030, to be able to produce a complete itinerary, a "mapping" of contemporary artistic production conceived and created in Southern Italy.

SOUTH CONTEMPORARY bears the organizational signature of Pino De Rose's Publiepa, one of the leading companies in the organization of events in the region, which in recent years is responsible for the creation of important festivals, exhibitions and exhibition projects with a strong cultural vocation.

In fact, the support of the Publiepa is the ALTERED performative review which animated the village of San Fili for two glorious years, the artist residency program for the recovery of the Calabrian textile tradition SPIDERS which comes to life annually in Longobucco and today joins SOUTH CONTEMPORARY .
