The Archaeological Area of Sodo and Tomb of Camucia is located in Cortona.
The Archaeological Area actively collaborates with the Museum of the Etruscan Academy and the City of Cortona.
The archaeological area includes the tumulus II of Sodo, which is one of the three melons, as the Etruscan tumuli in Cortona are called. In the area, there are imposing Etruscan funerary buildings called Meloni and Tanelle, as well as Roman roads on the Cortonese mountain. About 17 tombs from different periods have been found: from the Etruscan age to the Roman republican and imperial age.
Among the three Etruscan funerary monuments, the tumulus II of Sodo stands out with a spectacular staircase decorated with sculptural groups and architectural elements in an orientalizing style. The Etruscan artifacts found in the two tumuli are exhibited inside the MAEC, the Etruscan Archaeological Museum of Cortona.
Among the discovered remains is a splendid Roman Villa of Ossia, which is currently undergoing restoration.
The archaeological area is suitable for cycling and trekking routes to discover Etruscan archaeology.
