Rinaldo Zardini Paleontological Museum

The "Rinaldo Zardini" Paleontological Museum was inaugurated in August 1975.
Its display cases contain millions of years of history of life on earth. A story that can be imagined by wandering with a careful eye among the thousand forms of marine creatures which, petrified by time, testify to the geological and morphological evolution of this territory.

It is one of the largest collections of fossils existing today: shells of marine invertebrates, corals, sponges, fossils of countless animals. The fine calcareous silt that covered them allowed them not to be influenced by external factors: some have even retained their original chemical structure.
The specimens, collected by the Ampezzo researcher throughout the area of the Dolomites surrounding Cortina, were then meticulously cataloged by him. The name, place of discovery and the researcher's details have been indicated for each one.

Interest in the collection has grown more and more and scholars from all over the world have visited the museum which, born from the passion of a brilliant amateur, has spurred the curiosity of many.
Over the years, in fact, the collection has been enriched thanks to other enthusiasts, who have brought to light new and very precious specimens of fossils, including plant fossils. These very interesting findings still keep the path of scientific knowledge open.
The paleontological museum, increasingly complete, is thus a living and constantly evolving entity.
