From October 15 to November 15, 2024, the Museo d’arte moderna Mario Rimoldi in Cortina d’Ampezzo presents the exhibition "Nadir Zarour: New Paintings", the first solo show of the self-taught artist of Algerian origin and resident in the United Kingdom.

Addressing themes such as migration and the complexity of human connections, the intense body of 21 medium and large-sized paintings offers the rare opportunity to approach the vibrant and resilient spirit of an artist whose voice is as personal as it is universal.

His paintings are deeply influenced by the phenomenon of overpopulation, the frantic pace of modern urban life, and the resulting sense of alienation that these circumstances entail. These events are particularly felt by Zarour who, as an immigrant in a foreign country, faces the dual challenge of assimilation and belonging, further intensified by his personal battle against cancer.

This convergence of experiences has instilled in Zarour a profound urgency to connect with others, to find and express meaning amidst chaos. 

Zarour's works, reflecting on the phenomenon of journey understood both as a transfer between continents and - in a broader sense - as movement within urban contexts, convey a powerful message of resistance and hope, celebrating the vitality and richness that emerge from cultural diversity and the collective energy of human encounters.

Zarour's canvases are dynamic and vital thanks to the bustling vibrant colors, the interwoven and divergent lines that draw multitudes of figures, and the chosen technique, the free hand, outlining both abstract and figurative compositions.

In "Nadir Zarour: New Paintings", we find an encouraging invitation to reflect on the intersections of personal and collective narratives and on the lasting strength of connections that arise from the fusion of different cultures.
