The Musée de la Corse is an ethnographic museum that houses various collections that testify to the culture, tradition and territory of Corsica. It was inaugurated in June 1997 to preserve the ethnographic fund collected by Father Louis Doazan, missionary of the National Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions in Paris. The museum is located in the heart of the famous Citadel of Corte, built between the 15th and 18th centuries and classified as a Historic Monument. It is based in the Serrurier Barracks, a 19th century barracks, now rehabilitated as a modern museum space.
The museum itinerary is divided between a permanent space and one for temporary exhibitions. The Galerie Doazan sheds light on the anthropological gaze on rural and traditional Corsica advanced by anthropologists during the 19th and 20th centuries, while another section is dedicated to the problems posed by contemporary anthropology, where questions are raised about today's Corsica. , on its social, economic and cultural aspects, with important themes such as industrialization, tourism and the question of identity. A large temporary exhibition is organized every year, as well as numerous activities, such as conferences and educational workshops for children.
