“The work of places” is the title of Carlo Vigni's photographic exhibition; curated by Elisa Bruttini, it is created by Lombardi Arte with the patronage of the Fondazione di Sardegna and in collaboration with the Fondazione Musei Senesi, the Municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga and the Landscape Museum.

"The work of places" is an exhibition that tells a universe of works and places with an ancient charm. For years, Carlo Vigni's work has been investigating the landscape as a working life environment in which industrial architecture meets nature, in contrast or in harmony. A work, as the title of the exhibition underlines, which also engages places, ages them, transforms them by altering the landscape itself. Often the images – made mostly with a view camera and in black and white – feature wrecks of factories where the human presence is barely perceived and in which the architecture of the work takes on unprecedented and fascinating perspectives.

The itinerary focuses mainly on a rather recent research by the artist in the south-west of Sardinia, between Sulcis-Iglesiente and Medio Campidano, on the traces of the ancient mines , published in the catalog Indagine sul landscape mining in Sardinia (Ilisso, 2019) with the support of the Sardinia Foundation. Over the years, Vigni has created numerous series also focused on the Sienese area, which appear here in a significant selection: the former Idit of Isola d'Arbia (remember in this regard the exhibition The dust industry at the Santa Maria della Scala in 2021), the former Manifattura Tabacchi of Monteroni d'Arbia, the Sienambiente waste-to-energy plant in Poggibonsi.

The exhibition is divided into two moments: in addition to this first appointment at Lombardi Arte, in September, the second exhibition, with works other than those from Siena, will unfold inside the Landscape Museum of Castelnuovo Berardenga also with a site specific intervention.
