The “Franco Libertucci” Civic Gallery of Contemporary Art is located in the suggestive attic of the Palazzo Comunale di Casacalenda. It was born as a budding of the Kalenarte Open Air Museum of Contemporary Art (MAACK).
The foundations for the creation of the Civic Gallery were laid in 1997, with the aim of enriching the Kalenarte project begun in 1990.
While in 2007 the Gallery was officially inaugurated, named after Franco Libertucci, a native artist of Casacalenda and a figure on the artistic-cultural scene of the 1950s and 1960s.
The Gallery has an independent entrance located on the rear facade of the Town Hall, in via Emilio De Gennaro nº 83 and is spread over two levels: the entrance with the main hall and the attic. After passing the large glass door, you enter a space of great architectural strength, Sala01, which has been given the name “Achille Pace's thread”, a tribute to maestro Pace.
The visit itinerary winds through 9 rooms communicating with each other and all stitched up around a central space of multifunctional use. The rooms host the works donated by the artists who participated in the Kalenarte project and who thought it appropriate to contribute to the growth of contemporary art in Casacalenda with their presence.
To date, the collection consists of more than 150 works.
The collection allows the visitor to embark on a path of contemporary art that starting from 1970 reaches the present day. Thus he presents several generations of artists, from the masters who became part of the history of Italian art, Fabio Mauri and Achille Pace, to nationally and internationally established Italian artists, Libertucci, Diodado, Lorenzetti, Renzogallo, Neri .... Different and the presence of foreign artists was nourished.
The works of the collection weave the plot of a story that offers the viewer, even the non-expert, interpretations and multiple paths, suggestions and stories that are always new. There are different levels of reading as different expressive languages, from painting, to sculpture, from photography to visual performance, from installations to graphic works.
