The MACC - Museum of Contemporary Art is located in the city of Caltagirone, in the province of Catania. The city is famous for its pottery and its sweeping staircases. The MACC, housed in the eighteenth Hospital of Women, was born in 1996 following the donation of works by the artist Gianni Ballarò calatino from his wife. In this first group of works is added later collection of contemporary art, acquired by the city of Caltagirone on the occasion of the National Reviews of Ceramics since 1980. The MACC today exposes works of artists on the national scene over the last sixty years, and a large group of authors of the territory, with particular attention to Art Brut. Among the artists in it are remembered Luigi Alders, Lucilla Catania, Aldo Rontini, Paul Klerr, Luigi Mainolfi and Ettore Consolation. Thanks to the donation of Sylvia Franks, Director of Artivisive Gallery in Rome, the collection now includes works by Giulio Turcato, Mario Ceroli, Giacomo Balla, Enrico Accatino, Stelvio Botta, Tano Festa and many others. The Museum houses a rich library specialist, a photographic archive and documentary and library.
