With the title AMONG THE INVISIBLE JOINS, Museion presents over 150 works by more than 80 artists from one of the most visionary and significant private collections of international contemporary art in Italy: the Enea Righi Collection. Thanks to a longstanding relationship of trust, this collection has shaped museum research for over a decade on transdisciplinary, poetic, and socio-political artistic practices.
The exhibition presents a wide range of artworks, architectural projects, and artist books by renowned international artists such as Massimo Bartolini, Alighiero Boetti, Anna Boghiguian, Trisha Donnelly, Theaster Gates, Nan Goldin, Marisa Merz, Walid Raad, Sturtevant, Superstudio, Franz Erhard Walther, Lawrence Weiner, Akram Zaatari, and many others. The exceptional nature of the exhibition is further emphasized by the occupation of the entire building and the first exhibition of some recent acquisitions from the Enea Righi Collection, including works by Sonia Boyce, Roni Horn, and Ser Serpas.
At the center of the works in the Enea Righi Collection lies the human being, with its hidden truths and emotions, in its intimacy and relationship with others, in self-perception and external perception. The title AMONG THE INVISIBLE JOINS, literally "among the invisible junctions," is borrowed from a text by Virginia Woolf, in which human life unfolds as a testimony to its own fluidity, rich in potential and uncertainties.
Its characters move delicately between presence and looming absence, grappling with the memory of events and conflicts that prove elusive to full understanding. The title alludes to the boundaries that separate memory and forgetfulness, to the recurring act of opening and closing doors in human becoming. Similarly, the exhibition traces intimate connections between life itself and the stories we tell, between what has been and what remains physically perceptible. It highlights above all the two collectors' understanding of the transformative power of art, providing profound insights into the fluidity of life.
The works selected for AMONG THE INVISIBLE JOINS encourage viewers to reflect on the transitional spaces of contemporary existence, where socio-political tensions intertwine with artistic expression. In their artistic or sometimes activist practice, artists like Lisetta Carmi, Nan Goldin, and Zoe Leonard have understood identity as something fluid and bodies as open systems in constant exchange with the surrounding environment.
The works of Giulia Cenci, Jef Geys, Roman Ondak, Tarik Kiswanson, and Bronwyn Katz are just a few examples of how doors, frames, and windows recur as powerful motifs in the exhibition, framing the human body and simultaneously marking transitions and thresholds. Objects from
