"FIAT LUX. Lights in the Art and History collections of the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation in Bologna "

The exhibition curated by Benedetta Basevi and Mirko Nottoli on the Noble Floor investigates the dialectic between light and shadow drawing on the great heritage of the art collections of the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation, with works, among others, by artists such as Lucio Fontana, Piero Pizzi Cannella , Galileo Chini, Elisabetta Sirani, Johan Carl Loth, Gianluigi Toccafondo, Fabrizio Corneli .

Light as a spark of artistic creation: it was Pliny the Elder in his Naturalis Historia who placed the birth of painting in the moment in which man circumscribed, with a line, the shadow of his fellow man. And again light as a symbol of the divine and the metaphysical, of the maternal and of nature, often in contrast to the dark as a dark force, evil, non-being. The exhibition "Fiat Lux. Lights in the Art and History collections of the Cassa di Risparmio Foundation in Bologna" is built around the function that light has assumed in the history of art by changing its language, scheduled from 29 September to 27 next November at the Noble Floor of Palazzo Fava, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni of the Genus Bononiae circuit. Museums in the city of Bologna.

The exhibition, curated by Benedetta Basevi and Mirko Nottoli, aims to investigate the dialectic between light and shadow on an artistic level, highlighting the multiple declinations that individual artists have provided in their works: from the use of golden backgrounds in Byzantine icons to Caravaggio's chiaroscuro , from the chromatic-retinal function in impressionist painting to contemporary art where light becomes work. There are 45 works on display including paintings, sculptures and installations, from the fifteenth century to the present day, from the art collections of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna, which once again know how to express their varied richness. The exhibition itinerary is enriched by some literary passages and QR Codes that refer to extracts from films, documentaries and radio podcasts linked to the theme of the exhibition to widen the possibility of use and build references and suggestions.
