SUMMER AT LERCARO: A JOURNEY BETWEEN ART AND MUSIC

From June 14th to July 11th, the Lercaro Collection presents five evening appointments, between art and music : guided tours of the Dynamics of balance exhibition , curated by Pasquale Fameli and Pierluca Nardoni, will alternate with the musical encounters of Poliphònia . Review of art and music in dialogue by Claudio Calari. The review is part of Bologna Estate 2023 , the program of activities promoted and coordinated by the Municipality of Bologna and the Metropolitan City of Bologna - Bologna-Modena Tourist Territory.

Among the protagonists of the musical evenings we point out:

Fabrizio Puglisi, pianist and composer, has collaborated with many musicians who have marked the research music scene of the last fifty years, from Lester Bowie to John Zorn, from Steve Lacy to Butch Morris, up to great jazz musicians such as Kenny Wheeler and Enrico Rava performing at festivals in the United States and Canada, Europe, Africa, Turkey, India, Georgia, Mexico; historic member of the Bassesfere Collective, he has always loved crossing over into the territories of other artistic languages by interacting with dance or collaborating with actors, writers, poets and directors; teaches Jazz Piano at the "Frescobaldi" Conservatory of Ferrara and at the Siena Jazz University;

Dan Kinzelman, American saxophonist and composer, central figure in the new underground Italian jazz scene, his musical performance for 'Kudoku' was nominated for the Ubu Prize in 2016; has played in many of the most important international venues and festivals, including Umbria Jazz, Sudtirol Jazz Festival, Toronto Jazz Festival (Canada), London Jazz Festival (UK), 3 Tage Jazz (Austria), Belgrade Jazz Festival (SB), Jazzclub Moods (CH); he has been a professor at Siena Jazz University since 2016, where he currently teaches ensemble music and leads two interplay workshops;

Barend Middelhoff , saxophonist of great personality and experience, member of Houdini's since 1993, after moving to Paris, where he recorded "City Lines" (2002) with Denis Leloup and Olivier Ker Ourio, he settled in Bologna in 2003, city in which, among many others, he played with Renato Chicco, Marco Tamburini, Emanuele Cisi, Ehud Ashery, Tommaso Lama, Nico Menci, Fabrizio Bosso; back in New York, in 2019 he recorded "Fair Play" with guitarist Peter Bernstein and Paolo Benedettini. He is a professor at the GB Martini conservatory in Bologna;

Matteo Raggi , winner of the 3rd Music Conference of the Borromean Islands (Verbania), finalist of the Massimo Urbani National Award (Macerata) and finalist of the National Iceberg Competition sponsored by the Municipality of Bologna; studies with saxophonists Mr. Larry Smith and Mr. Charles Davis, DC Mr. Harry Allen and follows the seminars of pianist Mr. Barry Harris; he taught jazz instrument and harmony for four years at the Cultural Academy of Bologna and won the chair of "Ensemble Music for Jazz formations" at the A. Buzzolla State Conservatory of Music in Adria (RO) through a competition.

On the other hand , the June 28 appointment will see the orchestra of the very young of the Conservatory of Music Giovan Battista Martini of Bologna directed by Maestro Stefano Chiarotti: a group of under 18s, made up of both internal students of the Conservatory and external students, born to train younger students in a transversal context extended to all the realities present in the area, with the aim of involving as many young musicians as possible by developing, in addition to their executive skills, aggregation and interpersonal relationships.

The Dynamics of Balance exhibition was created with the contribution of the Cassa di Risparmio in Bologna Foundation and with the patronage of the Department of Arts of the University of Bologna and can be visited from 11 May to 17 September at the following times: Tuesday and Wednesday, 15.00-19.00; Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10.00-13.00 / 15.00-19.00.
