The Beverley Guildhall is a museum of East Riding museums. The building, originally purchased by the Beverley Town Keepers in 1501, has been used for several civic purposes. The building is still used for civil and ceremonial occasions and now also houses the Beverley Community Museum. Inside you can admire the splendid Rococo-style stuccoes on the court ceiling, completed by Giuseppe Cortese, an Italian-Swiss artist who moved to Yorkshire in the 18th century. The living room on the upper floor houses the finds of civic silver donated to the city over the years. The silver collection includes two ceremonial chains worn by Beverley's Waits ("Mayor's Minstrels"), dated 1423: they are among the oldest in England and are on permanent display in the Community Museum. The museum also houses a computer archive of nearly 3,000 photographs of Beverly's history. Visitors can search the database or add items to this collection with the help of museum staff. There is an exhibition of objects and images donated by the local population, as well as a regularly changing exhibition space.
