Two paintings on wood of significant dimensions, executed by one of the most beloved Renaissance masters, Sandro Botticelli (Florence 1445 - 1510), constitute an exceptional pendant and indissolubly bind the Carrara Academy of Bergamo and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum of Boston.
The events of history have led to Bergamo and Boston the History of Roman Virginia (1500 -1510) and the History of Lucretia, created by the Florentine painter universally celebrated for having been able to interpret the climate of his time which embraces the maximum splendor of the Medici court until to its crisis and its sunset.
