The Whole Truth exhibition by Jenny Holzer curated by Lorenzo Giusti , Director of GAMeC - Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo, opens to the public from May 30 at the Palazzo della Ragione in Bergamo, who sanctions the return to Italy of one of the most acclaimed and influential artists on the international scene.
Jenny Holzer's work uses the written word as a means of critical reflection and creative expression. At the end of the seventies his Truisms caused a sensation, challenging stereotypes about art and society and anticipating communication methods and strategies now widely used in guerrilla marketing. Spread at first through common media - such as wall posters, T-shirts, condom packs, baseball caps - the first verses were written on the trail of existing aphorisms, maxims and clichés. Holzer then produced numerous other series of verses, starting to make use of other people's words and often adapting them to larger or long-lasting formats, such as electronic signs, stone benches and light projections on natural or architectural surfaces, as well as oil paintings and watercolors.
