From 3 December 2022 to 2 May 2023 the Civic Museums of Bassano del Grappa present I Bassano. History of a family of painters , an unpublished "exhibition story" which, in the words of Premio Strega Melania Mazzucco – author of famous historical-artistic novels such as The Long Waiting of the Angel and The Architectress – traces the events of the dynasty of Bassano, undisputed protagonists of Venetian Renaissance painting.
To illustrate the stages that marked the enormous fortune of the Dalpontian workshop are over 40 works , masterpieces belonging to the Civic Museums of Bassano, narrated by the evocative words of Melania Mazzucco who will accompany the visitor along the exhibition itinerary. The visual dimension of the works is accompanied by the strength of the narrative dimension: two levels that interpenetrate and complement each other, making the exhibition a unique appointment to discover in an unprecedented way the events of the family of painters who made the city of Bassano del Grappa.
To enrich the visual story, in addition to the Dal Ponte paintings , precious objects and books will be exhibited, such as the Book of Accounts of the workshop, the alchemical exercise book of Francesco il Vecchio, a sixteenth-century herbarium that dialogues with the plants painted by Jacopo in the Flight into Egypt and the precious processional cross by Filarete, a masterpiece of sacred goldsmithing of the fifteenth century.
