The Museu Can Framis, opened in 2009 by the Fundació Vila Casas in the technological district of Poblenou (22@ district) in Barcelona, is a reference point for Catalan contemporary art. Housed in a restored 18th-century textile factory, the museum exhibits over 250 paintings created from the Sixties to the present day by artists born or active in Catalonia.
Organized on three levels connected by a large central atrium, the permanent exhibition route is updated annually, offering at the same time two temporary exhibitions every three months in the dedicated space Espai Aø. The stylistic variety ranges from abstraction to informal, from realism to conceptual painting, offering an in-depth look at the visual vitality of the region.
The building, designed by the BAAS studio, blends industrial and contemporary architecture: among recovered stone walls, lime and cement surfaces, and the widespread use of wood, emerges an intimate and reflective atmosphere. The inner courtyard with urban sculpture gives breath to the space, while natural light plays a central role in the rooms.
The museum offers guided tours, workshops, and educational activities for schools, families, and adults, designed to deepen artistic and historical concepts. Located near the Glòries and Llacuna metro stops, it is easily accessible and represents a strategic stop to combine with other cultural places such as the Museu del Disseny or the MACBA.
Can Framis is an ideal destination for those seeking a contemporary vision of Catalan painting immersed in a regenerated and creative urban context.
