CaixaForum Barcelona

The CaixaForum of Barcelona is a cultural center managed by the “la Caixa” Foundation. It is based in the ancient Fàbrica Casaramona, a modernist building designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch.

The museum houses several exhibition halls covering 3,000 m² spread over three rooms. Numerous temporary exhibitions are organized here with particular attention to the great cultures of the past, modern and contemporary art, the great masters of 20th century photography and trends in contemporary plastic art. Instead, the collection of the Foundation has more than 200 works and is one of the most significant in the whole country, it is in fact composed of Spanish works of art ranging from modernism to today. Among the international artists are exhibited here Donald Judd, Jannis Kounellis, Bruce Nauman, Gerhard Richter or Sigmar Polke. The work "L'abitazione di Piombo (Room of Pain)" by Joseph Beuys is on permanent display.

The museum also houses a media library with modern audiovisual equipment and the Media Art collection made up of works by different Spanish and non-Spanish artists. In the basement there is an Auditorium. An interesting part is the vestibule where you can admire the mural fresco that Sol LeWitt created in 2001 for the center and the neon cloud by Lucio Fontana created for the Milan Triennale in 1953.
