The Nueva Planta Decree , published in Catalonia on January 16, 1716 , allowed Philip V to configure a political regime that excluded the representation of Catalan society, strengthened the pre-eminence of military authorities over civilian ones and imposed political uniformities similar to the Kingdom of Castile and the administrative centralization in it.
With the promulgation of this decree, the territory of the Catalan Principality was planted under the "right of conquest" once the capital, Barcelona, capitulated on 11 September 1714.
