The print reproduces the painting by Antoon van Dyck kept at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna (inv. No. 512). A precise moment of the biblical story narrated in the Book of Kings is depicted. It is the moment of betrayal: Delilah delivers Samson to the Philistines, after having cut his hair and deprived him of his extraordinary strength. Note the exchange of glances between the two protagonists: he, disappointed and embittered, turns to his beloved lying on the bed in a mixed motion between resignation and anger.
