It is in the intimacy of a room in the Reggia di Colorno, furnished with furniture from France, that Baldrighi portrays the family of Don Filippo di Borbone. A drawing sent to him by his master Boucher, preserved in the Lombardi Museum, could be a suggestion for this challenging composition, but Baldrighi, whose signature we read on the floor, chose a personal solution, a parade of figures whose actions appear frozen, as in a photographic snapshot, while the artist's attention is focused on the iconographic fidelity and on the precise and precise description of each object, placed there to tell the daily life and customs of a ducal family. At the side of Don Filippo, the affable duke, intent on chatting is the Duchess Louise Elisabeth, daughter of Louis XV; standing, showing her own drawing, the beautiful daughter Isabella (who will marry the Archduke of Austria in 1760), while the two youngest children, intent on their childhood games, are the heir Don Ferdinando, next duke, and Maria Luisa, future queen of Spain. The picture is completed by the elegant and mature lady seen in profile, Madam Caterina de Gonzales, the Spanish governess, a discreet but authoritative presence, who oversees and supervises the life of the ducal family.
