Giò Pomodoro, born Giorgio Pomodoro, was an Italian sculptor, goldsmith, engraver and set designer. He is considered one of the most important abstract sculptors on the international scene of the 20th century.
He collaborated in his youth with his brother Arnaldo, and then moved on to the construction of monumental buildings in strictly squared stone and marble blocks.
The sculpture model for thin, made between 1975 and 1999, is inspired by the myth of the inseparable and heroic sons of Zeus, Castor and Pollux. The light glides over the completely smooth and shiny surfaces of the black Belgian marble, which symbolically ignites the vital force and evocative power of the mythical dioscura. For the artist, art is a mission and a continuous search for harmony between abstraction, matter and sign.
