Cy Twombly was an American artist, among the protagonists of contemporary art of the second half of the 20th century. He spent much of his career in Rome, where he developed a unique style that combines gestural painting, graphic signs, and references to classical mythology and poetry. His large canvases are characterized by writings, scribbles, lines, and layered colors that transform visual language into an emotional and lyrical experience. Considered close to Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism, Twombly exhibited in the most important international museums and is now recognized as a fundamental figure in 20th-century art.
