Parmiggiani is one of the main protagonists of Italian contemporary art. His research has as its main reasons a profound reflection on the nature of art and images, investigated with absolute stylistic and technical freedom. Parmiggiani has used means from the artistic tradition and materials from everyday or industrial use interchangeably. The installation Cross of Light, donated to the Civic Museums after the 2003 exhibition in Reggio Emilia, is a meditation on the sacred image, broken down into its fundamental elements and recomposed in the iconic sign of the cross that conveys its colors, scents, and tactile suggestions.
