Antonio Borrelli
Trophy (spatial structure), 1967-1968, welded and cadmium-plated iron, 35x25x25 cm
He was born in Naples in 1928, where he died in 2014. The sculptor's research adopts abstract-geometric modalities, sometimes with optical-perceptive values, also transferred to the field of jewelry design. During the seventies, Borrelli was involved in the Visual Arts Workers Federation of CGIL, as national secretary of the Union. In 1977, he was appointed to the Chair of "Foundry Techniques - Micro and macro fusions" at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, where he taught for 21 years. In 1998, he retired from teaching at the Academy, but continued his artistic activity in his studio. One of his works has been installed as a monument in Piazzetta Salazar, right behind Piazza Plebiscito. In 2009, he received the Fraternity Prize City of Benevento and, in 2012, the Mediterranean Prize - Art and Creativity.
