The 'ciarla' is the characteristic Grottagliese jar, an elegant two-handled vase with a globular body that is welded to a large foot by means of a slightly raised curb.
According to studies, their production develops in the eighteenth century to continue in the following century until it reaches a revival in the twentieth century.
The polychrome decoration consists mainly of vegetal, floral but also animal motifs, making these artifacts wonderful examples of ornamental ceramics.
