MACO, Museum of Oriental Art and Culture: it is located in Arcidosso thanks to the Dzogchen Community of Merigar, present on Mount Amiata for over 40 years, a lay community created thanks to the Tibetan professor Namkhai Norbu. The Museum, housed in the building of the former Chancellery, forming part of the medieval complex of the Aldobrandesco Castle, it is the result of the collaboration between the Dzogchen Community of Merigar and the Municipality of Arcidosso (GR).

The project was born from the desire of both institutions to find a home for the rich collection of over 5,000 oriental art objects and ethnographic artifacts contained in the Namkhai Collection. To further this goal, it was felt that it was important to create a 'living museum' experience for visitors. Maco leads the visitor into various cultural and ethnographic realities, not only with the beautiful exhibits, works of art, handicrafts and customs, important documents relating to Himalayan culture, but also through panels, multimedia and interactive installations, soundscapes , video,

Professor Namkhai Norbu was an internationally renowned scholar, president of the Dzogchen Community, of the Shang Shung Foundation, of Asia Onlus, and author of more than 250 publications and books, and in the 1980s he founded the spiritual headquarters on the slopes of Mount Amiata, in the locality of Merigar. A journey to get to know an unusual aspect, namely the spiritual aspect of Monte Amiata, appealed to by ancient peoples as the "Sacred Mountain".
