The Musée de Picardie is one of the major museums of Amiens and the former Picardy region. It preserves a rich collection of art and archeology that starts from prehistoric times and goes up to the twentieth century. Opened in 1854, the museum is housed in a 19th century building modeled after the Louvre Palace in Paris. It is one of the first buildings purposely built to house artistic collections. Within the collection, a rich part is represented by the archaeological section, consisting of the finds found in the territory of Picardy, but also from the bequests of the painter Albert Maignan, with numerous works of Greek, Egyptian and Roman art. The rich medieval section preserves a set of architectural elements (capitals, reliefs, etc.), statues and liturgical objects. The Pinacoteca preserves works by artists of the major European Renaissance schools, particularly French. Finally, the modern art of the 19th and 20th centuries is represented by numerous sculptures and paintings by artists such as Corot, Courbet, Mirò, Picasso, Picabia and several others.
