IAACC Pablo Serrano

IAACC Pablo Serrano

The Pablo Serrano Aragonese Institute of Contemporary Art and Culture , based in Zaragoza , houses the contemporary art collections of the autonomous community of Aragon. The origin of the museum is in the donation made by the artist Pablo Serrano to the Aragonese people of a large part of his artistic legacy. In 1995 the government of Aragon took charge of these assets, coming from the extinct Pablo Serrano Museum Foundation , and thus the I AACC Pablo Serrano was born. Since then, its collections have grown, incorporating the work of various national and international artists and complementing its cultural offering with a varied program of exhibitions focused on promoting contemporary art.

The museum was housed in the ancient artisan workshops of the Hospicio Pignatelli designed by Julio Bravo, an example of Aragonese industrial architecture of the early 1900s. Rehabilitated and later enlarged by architect José Manuel Pérez Latorre, today it stands with convincing geometric volumes and finishes in black and blue lacquered sheet metal.

In addition to hosting a permanent exhibition on the work of Pablo Serrano , in 2021 the museum started the project for the future permanent exhibition on Aragonese contemporary art. The final result will be the result of three phases, with detailed studies of each of the periods covered: 1939-1957, whose exhibition now occupies floors 3 and 4; 1957-1975 and 1975 - late 20th century.
