St Mary's Church in York is a deconsecrated church in 1958 that has been used since 2004 as a museum for organizing contemporary art exhibitions.
The church building is dated to the 11th century (presumably erected in 1020) although it has some features from the 15th century. It has the tallest bell tower in York at 47 meters high.
There is no certain information about who built it, only a plaque with the words "Efrard & Grim & Aese" written on it.
St. Mary's Church is located in one of the central streets of the city of York.
From 2013 to 2015, years in which the York Art Gallery was closed for renovation, York St Mary's was the focus of a busy schedule of exhibitions.
Also in 2015, St Mary's Church was home to the Aesthetica Art Prize, an internationally recognized art award that saw the participation of artists from all over the world.
