The exhibition THE ELEPHANT AND THE BLIND MEN - The Matter of the Void , organized by ZUECCA PROJECTS in collaboration with Rupture Arts & Books, presents a selection of paintings by Chiara Capellini , as the culmination of the artist's research and meditation on the concept of emptiness and uncertainty in physics .

The exhibition will be held from 18 April to 29 June 2024 at the Rupture Arts & Books bookshop in Venice, coinciding with the opening of the 2024 Art Biennale, and will include a selection of books (main source of the artist's research) in dialogue with the works exhibited. During the opening period of the exhibition, a conference will be held on the concepts of matter and vacuum in theoretical physics. After the Venice event, the project will also be presented at the Rupture bookshop in Paris and Marseille.

The exhibition takes its name from an ancient parable that tells of a group of blind men who have never met an elephant before and who learn and imagine what the elephant is like by touching it. Each blind person touches a different part of the animal's body and, based on their limited experience, describes it in different ways. The moral of the parable is that subjective and limited experiences lead to different and partial interpretations of phenomena.

On display, two different series of paintings that evoke the transition from macro to micro: the multicolored "VACUUM FIELDS" series and the monochromatic "NEUTRINI" series. "VACUUM FIELDS" focuses on the sensation of 'almost empty', the uncertainty of matter and its constantly evolving state. The "FLOATING NEUTRINOS" are monochrome oils on canvas in which the paint is scratched in search of imperceptible imperfections in its background: the scratches have removed the pigment, leaving a mark without matter.
