From 10 October to 15 December 2019
The meeting between the Civic Museums Foundation and in particular the Ca 'Pesaro Modern Art Gallery with Sophie Ko, a Georgian artist born in Tbilisi in 1981 and living in Milan, took place on the occasion of Art Verona, in 2018, for the sixth edition of Level 0.
Since 2013, an important network of museums, currently 13 among the most important in Italy for contemporary art, have participated in this initiative that favors the encounter between galleries, artists and directors of Italian art museums: every year each museum chooses an artist and inserts him into future programming, creating his own project.
The choice of Sophie Ko was dictated by the particular relationship of this young artist with matter and time. His works, his temporal geographies , are made of compressed and changing matter, which composes layers, moves, moves, accidentally or following perspective cuts or simply gravity. The powders have different colors and origins, pigments and ashes and natural finds, composed in the works of Sophie Ko return a time that remains suspended between the flow of the past and the irruption of the present.
The artist has defined his relationship with the Ca 'Pesaro Museum by constructing his temporal geography in dialogue with one of the most famous works of the Gallery of Modern Art: the Thinker by Auguste Rodin. Founding work of the Museum, such as the equally monumental I Borghesi di Calais , both linked to Rodin 's presence at the Biennale International Art Exhibition of the Biennale in 1901 and 1907. The Thinker is thus joined by a work that recalls his eternity . The artist looks to the timeless man to compose pigment and ash in a form that recalls his imploding strength, between memory of the past, restlessness of the present and anxiety of the future.
