From 27 September to 1 February 2026
On the 27th of September 2025, the exhibition Fernand Léger! Yves Klein, Niki de SaintPhalle, Keith Haring, will open at the Art Halls of the Reggia, dedicated to Fernand Léger and the connection and influence that his work had on the New Realism movement, and will be hosted until Sunday, February 1, 2026.
Based mainly on the collections of the Musée national Fernand Léger in Biot and the Musée d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain (MAMAC) in Nice, with prestigious loans from the Centre Pompidou and the Yves Klein Archives in Paris, the exhibition brings together over thirty works by Fernand Léger (Argentan 1881 - Gif-sur-Yvette 1955), a pioneer of modern art, in close comparison with artists from the European and American avant-gardes active from the 1960s to today. The exhibition path highlights the strong historical and artistic connection between Léger's work and the generation that immediately followed him: the New Realists.
Launched in 1960 by art critic Pierre Restany, the New Realists movement brings together artists such as Arman (1928-2005), César (1921-1998), Raymond Hains (1926-2005), Yves Klein (1928-1962), Martial Raysse (1936), Daniel Spoerri (1930), and Niki de Saint Phalle(1930-2002), who appropriate everyday objects from consumer society and street aesthetics. Their approach is not aimed at representing reality, but at its poetic appropriation.
