Casa Rietveld Schröder

The Rietveld Schröder house is a private residence designed by Gerrit Rietveld, master of neoplastic architecture, and built in 1924 in Utrecht on commission from Mrs. Truus Schröder-Schräder. The progressive expansion of the surrounding building fabric, however, began to irremediably compromise the relationship of the Schröder house with the outside: if in the twenties the structure was located in a context of terraced houses only, in fact, starting from the second half of the twentieth century century its views gradually began to lose space and vision, especially following the construction of a motorway in their immediate vicinity (in which, among other things, Rietveld himself participated in the design). With these assumptions, Mrs. Schröder also came up with the project to demolish the house, which in any case according to her "was not born to last over time".
