Commissioned for the inauguration of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, in 2013, and after being presented in the most prestigious international institutions such as the Center Pompidou in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the participatory performance of the Taiwanese-American artist LEE Mingwei arrives in Italy for the first time at MAO, where it will be visible for a month.
Sonic Blossom is part of the evolution of the Buddha10 exhibit. Fragments, drifts and refractions of the Buddhist visual imagery, which opens to the public on May 6 with a profound makeover.
The MAO Oriental Art Museum of Turin, in collaboration with the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory of Music in Turin and with the Taipei Representative Office in Italy, is pleased to present the Sonic blossom performance for the first time in Italy by artist LEE Mingwei (Taiwan, 1964).
From 6 May to 4 June 2023 Sonic Blossom will be performed at MAO , in the Salone Mazzonis, creating a dialogue with the public, with the works from the permanent collections and with the temporary exhibition Buddha10 . Fragments, drifts and refractions of the Buddhist visual imagery.
For five weeks in the halls of the museum, seven singers from Erik Battaglia's School of Vocal Chamber Music of the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory will take turns, selected and trained by Lee Mingwei in collaboration with Professor Battaglia himself.
Of all the visitors they meet, they will choose one to whom they will offer a Lied by Schubert as a gift ; if this person accepts the offer, he will be taken to the Mazzonis Hall on the first floor and the performance will begin.
The exhibitions are closely linked to the participation of visitors and will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 15 to 17; Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 to 13 and from 15 to 17.
